Hütte South Substation, Austria
The largest industrial complex in Austria, voestalpine Stahl GmbH located in Linz, had originally erected the Hütte South Substation in the 30s to supply the site with power. As the components were long since no longer state of the art, the works was revitalised in stages during 2006 and 2007. The matter in hand was a plant inside a hall on three floors.

The challenge: the increase of the voltage level from 66 to 110 Kilovolt had to be achieved using a balance of compact design. Furthermore, special heat treatment of the tubular busbars was unavoidable because of the high temperatures resulting from the continuous current at 4000 Ampere. Lorünser Austria was contracted with the engineering, the calculation of the tubular busbars as well as the new design of the necessary components.
